When the service is absolutely not up to the task: Restaurant Paul’s (10. January 2018)
Although I was a bit reluctant at first to visit the Paul’s as I didn’t trust a French(ish) restaurant in Bahrain, I end up there quite a lot recently – especially since it is one of the only places in the Bahrain City Centre mall where you get kind of healthy food. The “Boule de riz au saumon (fried rice balls with smoked salmon, onions, garlic and Parmesan cheese rolled with bread crumbs, served with fresh rocca, lemon dressing and horseradish cream), 2 pieces” (3.600 BHD) was fine – nothing special or spectacular in terms of taste really but the salmon balls were decent.
The “salade kale-quinoa aux framboises (raspberry and quinoa kale salad, cherry tomatoes, fresh pomegranate topped with fresh mint, served with lemon dressing)” (5.900 BHD) wasn’t as good as expected. For one, they ran out of raspberries and put strawberries instead. I mean, okay, fair enough this can happen but frankly, it shouldn’t, especially since they announce it as a ‘new dish’. Well, I figured I won’t have to try this one again.
The place was packed but it is decent overall. The service, however, was definitely not up to the task which was mainly related to the fact that there were too many customers and they were clearly overwhelmed. All in all, the Paul’s is the healthiest option I have encountered so far in Bahrain City Centre but it is not a place I would go to if I had a closer choice.
