Empty restaurants with average food: Restaurant Baan Saeng Thai (15. January 2018)
Due to the fact that this place had been recommended to me, I was surprised upon entering. It looked not very appealing plus it was absolutely empty. There were literally no other guests there but us. At least we had the full attention of the service. I went for the “vegetable spring rolls” (2.200 BHD) as a starter which were good.
The “mixed appetizer (mix tempura, mix of spring roll, fried crab, fried prawns, fried squid)” (8.500 BHD) on the other hand wasn’t to my liking. The spring rolls were good again but the fried crab was straight out disgusting as it wasn’t the crab meat which was fried but there was a lot of shell left so it all became incredibly crunchy but in a truly unpleasant way.
The “Tom Ka Gai (chicken & coconut milk soup flavoured with lemon grass and herbs), small” (2.800 BHD) was truly delicious but if that was the small portion, I am wondering how big the large portion is. I mean, this alone feeds one grown up man (and you wouldn’t even need starters or anything else).
The “fried noodles in Thai style with chicken” (2.800 BHD) on the other hand were rather boring in terms of flavor.
Luckily, they were good at preparing fresh juices and the “fresh watermelon juice” (2.000 BHD) was truly great. Now, all in all, it is not necessarily a restaurant I would want to visit immediately again. And if I would, I’d go for the soup, nothing else.
