Overpriced but with exquisite service: Restaurant Primavera @ The Ritz Carlton (16. January 2018)

| June 13, 2018 | 0 Comments

I have heard quite a bit about the Primavera in the Ritz Carlton and that it is apparently among the better restaurants on the island. And frankly, I understand now why. Once you’ve been seated, you are attended by incredibly friendly waiters and “spread & bread” is served right away – grissini, focaccia, and regular bread with three types of spread.

The “insalata romana con pesto alla trapanese (romaine lettuce, almond, candied tomato, Parmesan shaving)” (5.500 BHD) was refreshing and light. Not really Italian as the name of the restaurant would make you believe but still very good.

The “hammour con purea di broccoli (local hammour, broccoli purée, candied cherry tomato)” (15.000 BHD) was good but overpriced. Paying almost CHF 40.00 for that tiny piece of fish is a bit of a rip-off. I mean the fish was good but the price doesn’t stand in any relation to the price you pay.

The “patatine fritte al tartufo (truffle French fries)” (5.000 BHD) were also rather disappointing. There was nothing like fresh truffle or the like but really just truffle oil applied generously all over the fries. Not that it necessarily tasted bad but it was regular fries with some oil on them.

The “créme brûlée” with matcha ice cream was better than expected but it definitely wasn’t prepared freshly but has been lingering in the fridge for quite a bit as the créme was quite cold.

What is always a true rip-off are the prices for alcohol. A bottle of “Villa Girardi, Valpolicella Classico D.O.C., Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Molinara), 2014” (51.000 BHD) is just not worth that kind of money. I mean, it was decent, it was okay, it was good but the price you pay for that is just so much over the top.

All in all, the Restaurant Primavera offers a great experience in terms of atmosphere, attentiveness and friendliness of the staff. However, when it comes to the dishes, I must say, it is not really that amazing and it is – frankly – just overpriced. And I’m not even talking about the alcohol only. So, if you want to go for a fancy dinner, then the Primavera isn’t the worst place but frankly, it isn’t that amazing either. Booking might be necessary for weekends.
