Atmospheric place with luscious dishes: Restaurant Catch (1. February 2018)

When you are starving because your flight is late and your meeting takes 3 hours longer than originally intended so you end up eating pretty much nothing the whole day, everything tastes amazing. But even after the first immediate hunger was satisfied, things still tasted great. The “Korean fried chicken bao (spicy coleslaw, pistachio), 2 pieces” (58.00 AED) was absolutely mouthwatering and just plainly delicious!

The “Short Rib Tacos (2 pieces; grilled pineapple, pickled vegetable, wasabi creme fraiche)” (42.00 AED) and the “King Fish Tacos (guacamole, tomatillo, 2 pieces)” (47.00 AED) were great. Simple, crispy, crunchy and last but not least just delicious in terms of flavour.

The “Tajin Smoked Edamame (chili, lime, sea salt, sesame)” (47.00 AED) were a bit weird at first as the thing they burned to make them ‘smokey’ was rather intense at first. But once this was kind of over, the edamame was actually great as it was an interesting combination of flavours and textures with some spicy elements, the acidity of the lime and the saltiness of the salt.

The “‘BG’ Burger (Josper roasted, 28 day dry aged beef, short rib, truffle, foie gras, duck egg, duck fat fries)” (150.00 AED) was great but definitely way too much. The meat was tender and delicious – and just the whole combination of different ingredients made it an amazing dish. But the portion was admittedly huge!

Now, when we talk about wine, then Dubai is just not the place to enjoy your wine. I mean, it is completely overpriced and, therefore, the wines are not drunk frequently ending up in rather low quality products. Even the Barolo I had ordered was far from what you usually get e.g. in Italy. And for 173 AED a glass, I would definitely have expected more! Else, the Catch is actually a nice place as it is atmospheric, the interior design is nice, and the service is friendly and helpful. Just make sure to book a table in advance as else you won’t stand a chance to actually get a seat.
