Lovely outdoor place with Americanized food: Restaurant Café Amsterdam (11. February 2018)
The Café Amsterdam offers a lovely selection of dishes and has quite a nice atmosphere overall. The “quinoa and cauliflower croquettes, served with Romesco sauce” (3.900 BHD) are delicious in flavour.
The “deep fried calamari, black lemon mayo” (4.500 BHD) on the other hand are a bit disappointing as the batter is lose and somewhat not really that tasty.
The “chargrilled chicken wings, marinated in lime & ginger, served with grilled lemon & chili mayo” (4.500 BHD) were a bit tricky to eat but not bad in terms of taste.
Although it doesn’t have anything to do with regular Mexican tacos, the “tacos, avocado, Mexican salsa, Monterrey cheese, coriander, diced tomato and sour cream” (3.900 BHD) were yummy. Again, a complete Americanization of things but yummy nevertheless.
One of my favourite dishes was the “tuna poke marinated in soya sauce with spring onion & togarashi” (5.500 BHD). You wouldn’t taste too much of the tuna but in combination with the avocado and the soy sauce, it made a great dish.
The “petite fillet 200gr (the most tender cut, low in fat and full of flavour)” (13.000 BHD) was surprisingly good. It looked a bit sad on the plate when it was served but it was ultimately quite delicious. The sauces were rather heavy and artificial though.
The “triple-cooked fries” (2.00 BHD) were, well, fries.
The “icecream trio (rose, pistachio, and something else)” was interesting in terms of flavours but all of it not really to my personal liking. Especially the idea of a pistachio sorbet was not even to a limited degree appealing.
The place itself is overall quite nice as you get to sit outside and it is quite atmospheric. And the service personnel did a great job – also because they allowed to prepare for a little baby shower surprise for a colleague. All in all, the Café Amsterdam is a nice change to regular places – however, nothing outstanding.
