The perfect Angus Short Rib: Restaurant 55 & 5th Grill @ The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort (15. February 2018)

| July 8, 2018 | 0 Comments

I walked into the Restaurant 55 and 5th because it was the only restaurant in the premise which still served food after 11pm. Luckily! As an amuse bouche, a “chicken fritter with sweet chili sauce” was served. Simple but great to tickle your palate.

The “Foie Gras Mille Feuille (marinated foie gras, pear panna cotta, Pedro Ximeenez Port wine poached pear, brioche)” (140 AED) was okay but not that exquisite. Especially since it was pressed foie gras which I definitely do not prefer compare to fresh one.

The “Angus Short Ribs (48 hours braised short ribs, burnt onion purée, bone marrow, dehydrated shallot, sourdough)” (225 AED) on the other hand was absolutely delicious! The meat just fell apart when you would take a bite – literally just dissembling in your mouth. Luscious! However, the bone marrow is somewhat artificial and doesn’t really taste like bone marrow. Pity!

The “chocolates” which were served at the end of the meal are absolutely tasty and the perfect ending.

The service does an excellent job – you feel very welcome and taken good care of. The interior design is a bit intense but actually quite lovely – quite colourful really which – for me – doesn’t work entirely with the ambition the restaurant has. Especially considering the fact that they play live music. Admittedly, the music is very good but it just doesn’t fit my understanding of ‘good restaurant’ and ‘loud music’.

Overall, the Restaurant 55 & 5th in the regular restaurant is definitely worth visiting!
