Something I’ve never seen – a Mustard Wagon: Restaurant J&G Steakhouse @ The St. Regis Al Habtoor (22. February 2018)

| July 18, 2018 | 0 Comments

I felt like a large junk of meat – and the J&G at The St. Regis Al Habtoor is the perfect place for that. It all started with a “cauliflower soup” as an amuse bouche. Which is somewhat atypical for a steakhouse but it cleansed the palate plus the warmth of it was very pleasant.

The “bread & butter” which was served was rather regular but the bread was fluffy and tasty.

As a starter I went for the “Beef Tataki (kimchi, chipotle mayonnaise)” (63 AED) which was not what I had expected but actually absolutely delicious!

Now, my absolute highlight of the evening was the “Mustard Wagon”. I have seen a cheese trolley, a cookie trolley and all kinds of trolleys but a mustard wagon – never! And I liked it absolutely as the “gingerbread mustard” was definitely something you should try!

The “Queensland AACo Beef MB4 (exclusively for St. Regis) Tenderloin, 240gr” (285 AED) is on the expensive side but the meat is, admittedly, tasty and definitely very enjoyable.

The “sautéed broccolini (garlic & red chili)” (37 AED) on the side is the perfect balance to the dish – feels really healthy eating it! :-)

Which had to be counter-balanced by the “French Fries” (27 AED) which were rather boring in terms of taste but …

… went perfectly with the “Sauce Béarnaise”.

So, while the J&G is definitely a bit on the pricier side (not surprisingly, given it’s a St. Regis restaurant), it is worth going here as the meat is good, the mustard wagon is a plus and the service is very dedicated, professional and friendly. Table booking does not seem necessary (was half empty on a Thursday night).
