Surprisingly good tapas in the UAE: Restaurant Taperia @ The St. Regis Dubai, Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club (10. March 2018)

I was a bit skeptical to try the last restaurant in The St. Regis. The Taperia. I mean, why would you try Spanish tapas in an Arabian country? Well, it turns out that this is actually not a bad idea. I went for the “Albondigas a la Catalana (Catalan meatballs)” (32 AED) which were good in terms of quality of the meat and equally good in terms of the sauce.

The “La Bomba de la Barceloneta (croquette stuffed with potatoes, wagyu beef, aioli, brava sauce)” (38 AED) were huge. And delicious.

The “Pulgo a la Gallega (octopus, creamy potatoes, pimentón, olive oil)” (68 AED) was – for me – the least appealing of all dishes. Still fine but somehow not comparable to the rest of the dishes.

The “Gambas al Ajillo (garlic shrimps, hot peppers)” (76 AED) were delicious. Frankly, a bit overcooked but great in terms of taste and texture.

The “ceviche de mariscos, aguacate y maiz (seafood ceviche, corn, avocado)” (72 AED) was definitely my favourite dish. The large corn and the fresh seafood chunks really made it delicious.

Even the “Anchoas del Cantábrico (conserved anchovies ‘del Cantábrico’ style)” (40 AED) were great.

I tried the signature drink of The St. Regis – a Bloody Mary. This time, it was the “El Polo Mary” (60 AED) and it was a bit too spicy for my personal gusto. Not bad but I didn’t like it as much as for example the bloody Mary in The St. Regis in Saadiyat island in Abu Dhabi.

To sum it up, the dishes were definitely much better than expected. Maybe also because I didn’t really have any expectations. In any case, after the Grill Pit, the La Taperia is definitely my favourite restaurant in The St. Regis. Worth trying!
