Traditional, comfortable, appealing: Restaurant Bernerhof (13. March 2018)

| August 12, 2018 | 0 Comments

The Bernerhof is one of the authentic restaurants in Zurich. Most of the restaurants are about ‘new’, about ‘fancy’ and about ‘posh’. The place is simple, authentic, set up with care and you immediately feel comfortable once you’ve taken your seat. I went for the “heart of salad with home-made dressing” (CHF 13.00). While the salad was tasty and the sauce was delicious, the salad leaves were a bit too big.

As a main course, I went for the “beef filet ‘Café de Paris'” (CHF 62.00). The meat was prepared medium rare as per my request. The meat was tender and rich. The ‘Café de Paris’ sauce on the other hand wasn’t the best one I’ve tried in my life. When it comes to that, I still think that the Restaurant La Côte is the very best of those.

Also especially since the “French Fries” are rather regular here. Still, the food is good, hearty, and generally fine. The service is attentive, friendly, and making sure you have what you need.

And the prices are very much acceptable, especially for Zurich. Actually, things are cheap for Zurich standards. A “double espresso” accounts for CHF 7.50, a glass of “Cabreao” for CHF 9.50. So, still, we are not talking about ‘actually cheap’, given it is still Zurich, but definitely very acceptable. If you are looking for an authentic place for dinner with reasonable prices and good food, the Bernerhof is definitely the right call.
