One of the best Italian restaurants in Zurich: Restaurant Da Angela (15. March 2018)
It doesn’t really matter what day of the week it is, the Da Angela is always packed. And I understand why, as the place is lovely in terms of interior design and they have a great setting as the single tables are sufficiently apart so you would have the necessary privacy. Once seated, you are attended swiftly and within a short period of time, you are served an amuse bouche. Today it was “lentils with bacon” and while it was an incredibly simple dish, it was the perfect start into the evening.
As a starter, I went for the “taglierini con ‘Pomodorini del Piennolo Vesuvio DOP’ e burrata” (CHF 22.00) and while the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente and the piece of burrata went really well with it, the tomatoes were not ripe and were lacking flaovur. Still, the best al dente pasta I have eaten in a long while.
As a main course, the “filetto di manzo ‘Angela'” (CHF 55.00) was served perfectly medium as requested with a light grill flavour, making it – overall – a decent main. What was a bit confusing for me was the fact that it was basically served in a pan of sizzling oil. Not sure why that is necessary (okay, it keeps the meat warm) as it makes things relatively greasy.
The “saffron risotto” which I picked as a side dish was delicious in terms of taste but somehow it could have been a bit ‘less dry’.
The service is exquisite – they really manage to create an atmosphere of comfort and care. How you would want a great restaurant service to look like. If you are looking for good Italian dishes in a lovely atmosphere with caring service for relatively decent prices, the Da Angela is a great place to enjoy exactly that. Make sure to book a table in advance though.
