Great salad, average burger for lunch: Restaurant L’Esquina (21. March 2018)
After entering, I was a bit skeptical to what degree this was going to be good. But after the “menu salad” (CHF 5.50) was served, I was positively surprised. Given it was not only leaf salad but had cucumbers and tomatoes in it making it quite a tasty start for a very fair price.
The “Burger L’esquina (minced beef, manchego, chorizo, salad leaf and garlic sauce, patatas bravas)” (CHF 23.00) was a bit overloaded in terms of garlic sauce. While I like patatas bravas and I really do not mind garlic, the sauce was way too intense. The burger had a good bun as it was quite crispy and had a certain firmness but the patty was not entirely satisfying, especially since they didn’t even ask how I wanted the patty to be grilled. Well, it turns out, the salad is good, the burger is just average.
The place is rather small so it is key to book a table in advance. And given it is a rather small place, you have to be aware that you won’t have privacy really. The prices are very decent which is also true for the beverages (e.g 0,4l water, CHF 5.40; double espresso, CHF 6.50). The service is friendly and swift, however, not entirely attentive as I got still water instead of sparkling water. All in all, decent place for lunch but definitely nothing outstanding.
