Lovely place for meat with a funny name: Restaurant AuGust (3. May 2018)
I haven’t heard about the AuGust before and was at first a bit surprised when my friend sent me the name of the place as it looked like a typo. But it isn’t a typo. It’s the actual name of the restaurant. However, the place is serving a lovely variety of different meat dishes like the “Merguez (100% beef and herb sausage, butchery Hornecker)” (CHF 14.00) which comes with nothing on the side. Definitely tasty and a can do.
The “veal paillard with white asparagus and tomato vinaigrette” (CHF 56.00) was great – but mainly because of the tomato vinaigrette which was incredibly aromatic and lovely in taste. The white asparagus was better than expected (especially since I’m usually not a big fan of white asparagus). The meat was good – but the vinaigrette made it exceptional.
The place is not too big, quite crowded, and somewhat noisy. However, we probably contributed our fair share to that noisiness. The service is friendly but a bit uncoordinated between them. Prices are okay for Zurich but also not on the cheap side (e.g. double espresso, CHF 6.50; glass of white wine, CHF 9.00, water, CHF 6.00). Make sure to book a table in advance though as else you won’t stand a chance to actually get a table.
