An absolute must when you visit Madrid: El Mercado de San Miguel (10. May 2018)

| October 14, 2018 | 0 Comments

Every time I am coming to Madrid, I just have to pay the El Mercado de San Miguel a visit as it is one of these places you just want to go back to. They have so many lovely foods and you just want to try them all. Starting with the “fried sardines” (EUR 15.00) which is one of many options …

… as well as with a selection of different typical cheeses …

… and of course the place where you can get your “Jamón Iberíco”.

All of this is not necessarily a cheap pleasure but definitely a pleasure. The “fried sardines” (EUR 15.00), the “selection of cheeses” (EUR 9.00) and the “Jamón Iberíco” (EUR 19.50) make for a nice package to start your late lunch.

Of course, you have to try more like the local food “croquetta” which is rather simple but the stuffing makes quite a difference.

I went for the “croquettas with blue cheese, chorizo, and jamón” (EUR 2.00 each) and I absolutely loved the blue cheese ones! Worth a try!

Given you don’t want to end up all thirsty, there are a variety of joints which sell drinks. And this one sells “sangria” …

… which is not only tasty but also rather cheap with EUR 2.60 per glass.

Although, to me, Italia is the country of the fine cheeses really, there is a joint which sells all kinds of little breads with a variety of Italian cheese toppings like “mozzarella con speck” (EUR 3.50) or “burrata con jamón y cebolla” (EUR 3.50) and they are delicious! Definitely a must try!

The “crab burger” (EUR 3.50) I end up having now for the second time and why it is not bad, it isn’t among my favourites to be honest. But it looks pretty, doesn’t it?

What you have to make sure, if you are in a bit of a group, that someone tries to get some space and then slowly starts collecting chairs. There aren’t many and people are quite fighting for them. Therefore, be quick if you see a free spot, it won’t be free for long. Oh, and don’t rush. You have enough time at hand once you’ve gotten your stuff and get to enjoy it properly! Strolling around recommended!
