When you have a great chef but the service isn’t up to the task: Restaurant Kreis 6 (31. May 2018)

When it’s the day of the ‘slow and bad service’, it really is the ‘day of the slow and bad service’. Over lunch, it took them already ages to get anything done. And here we are again. Completely different location, completely different setup, however, the same speed of service. To be fair though, the rain had just set in and they had to move the tables inside. But still, for me, it was completely unacceptable. If you are sitting there for 25 minutes and you still don’t have a menu in front of you, something is seriously wrong.

After making it clear that I’m pissed and having a rather lengthy discussion with (or rather: monologue by) the owner, we finally got to place our orders. And only 20 minutes later, it was time and we got the starter. I went for the “avocado with a basil sauce, carrot salad with ginger” (CHF 14.50) which looked rather standard but was actually great. So, after the starter, my mood lightened up.

As a main course, I went for the “home-made ricotta ravioli with lemon thyme butter” (CHF 30.50) and they were also great. So, it is a pity. The food is great! Really good! But it just takes so damn long until you get your food! Why? I mean, you start pissing off your customers before they get to try the quality of your dishes. I was reeeeeally close of walking out and the pure fact that it was a business event kept me there (contenance!).

The “crème brûlée with white chocolate and dark chocolate sorbet” (CHF 13.50) was fine but not as good as the starter and the main course. Still good though. The place itself is fine but nothing spectacular but it has its very own atmosphere which makes it somehow simple but nice.

And to be entirely fair, the quality of the service massively improved once some of the tables emptied out. They became more attentive, friendlier and in the end, the owner even offered us a ‘schnapps’ and a coffee on the house trying to make up for what went wrong in the beginning. And I can definitely appreciate that! So, I will give the place another chance as the food is really good! Let’s hope the service quality will improve!
