A heavenly place for cheese lovers: Restaurant Café Pfunds (2. June 2018)
The “Wensleydale cheese soup with croutons” (EUR 5.80) is a heavy, very cheesy soup but rich in flavour – almost a bit too rich to be entirely honest. And it was served within a very reasonable amount of time despite the fact that the place was very crowded.
While their ‘local’ cheese platter is actually quite good (unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture), the “international cheese platter (7 different types of cheese made from cow milk, goat milk, and sheep milk, olives, baguette)” (EUR 15.50) is a bit of a disappointment. I mean, the cheeses were all good but of course they lack a bit the ‘inspirational aspect’ as they are all rather standard cheeses.
The “mixed ice cream (wild stawberry-mascarpone, lemongras-buttermilk, mango-yogurt)” (EUR 5.10) on the other hand was truly exquisite. The combination of flavours was just excellent.
The interior of the Café Pfunds is very traditional and actually quite lovely all in all – but not a place you would want to spend hours in. The service is friendly and swift – just how service should be. The prices are a bit on the touristic side, admittedly, but still entirely reasonable. If you are in Dresden and like cheese, you should definitely pay the Café Pfunds a visit!
