Amazing salad and amazing view onto lake Brienz: Restaurant Chalet Du Lac (30. June 2018)

| November 24, 2018 | 0 Comments

When you have arrived in the Restaurant Chalet Du Lac, you are already almost in paradise. Frankly speaking, the place itself is not that incredible but the fact that it is located right next to lake Brienz and you have an absolutely marvelous view onto the lake. The service is friendly but not entirely swift really as you have to wait quite a bit until someone finally shows up to bring you the menu. To be fair though, the moment they do, things go quite quickly. I went for the “fresh tomato cream soup” (CHF 9.90) as a starter which looked disappointing but was surprisingly good as there well still full tomato junks in the soup.

The “mixed salad in a bowl” (as part of the main course) was absolutely incredible. It was not only a whole lot but it was a very rich mixture of tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, onions, and leaf salad. I love the concept of this ‘huge bowl’ for the table and then you get to eat as much salad as you want.

The “fried fillets of mountain whitefish, perch and pike-perch, boiled potatoes” (CHF 39.00) were good but definitely a bit too dry for my personal gusto. The batter stuck nicely to the fish but the fish was somewhat dried out. So, all in all, the main course was not as delicious as the starters.

However, with “mayonnaise and garlic sauce”, it all went down well.

As mentioned, the food is good but not overly delicious but the view onto the lake is very much so. So, it is worth coming here when you are in the area anyway. And the prices are entirely fair for what you get, including the beverages (e.g. 5dl Roero Arneis, CHF 34.00; or CHF 5.00 for a double espresso, or CHF 8.00 for 1l of water).
