Lovely atmosphere, very caring personnel: Reck’s Hotel-Restaurant (21. July 2018)

| December 8, 2018 | 0 Comments

I am a huge fan of Starwood and its hotels as they come with certain perks. However, in Salem there is no Starwood hotel (obviously!). So, I decided to go for the place which is ranked highest on TripAdvisor which was the Hotel Reck’s. And I must admit that it is quite a lovely place. The hotel is small, family-run, and the staff is super caring and friendly.

And the same is true for Restaurant Reck’s – you get to dine in a lovely area of this former farmer’s house. The food is good but simple. The “chanterelles soup with croutons” (EUR 7.80) is quite a portion and good in terms of flavour.

The “sour liver” (EUR 17.80) has an intense flavour and you can definitely taste the ‘sour’ note. But it was hearty and rich. Definitely worth trying.

The “roasted potatoes” which were served with it are – again – an incredibly big portion. But they are tasty and overall delicious.

What I like a lot is the passion they have about food – they describe in detail on how they pay attention to the freshness of their products. Something quite normal one might think but I suppose it is actually the case less and less so.

The “Aalto, Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero D.O., 2014” comes for a decent price of EUR 58.00 and a bottle of mineral water accounts for EUR 5.20. The service is friendly and very caring – you feel welcome, home, and like they care about you as a guest. That is the way one should always feel when walking into a restaurant and intending to dine there. If you are ever in the area of Überlingen, or more precisely, Salem, then I can definitely recommend you to pay a visit to the Hotel Reck’s.
