Lovely place by the lake with average dish quality: Restaurant Nidwaldnerhof (1. August 2018)

| December 17, 2018 | 0 Comments

I only recently started re-discovering the beauty of the area of Beckenried and now within a few weeks it’s the second time I ended up in the region. The Restaurant Nidwaldnerhof offers lovely tables with a view onto the lake (if you book in advance). Once you’re seated you’re served “spread” …

… and “bread”. There isn’t a lot of bread really so you have to keep asking if you’re in a larger group. But the spread is quite delicious (and that definitely adds to the speed of the bread disappearing).

As a starter I went for the “carrot apple soup with fried ginger” (CHF 12.50) which was lovely in taste and especially the fried ginger added the little extra and hint of spice.

The “home-made zander crisps with tartare sauce and potato gnocchi from Ennetbürgen, and vegetables” (CHF 32.50) on the other hand weren’t as good. I did love the potato gnocchi but the zander crisps were somewhat disappointing. They didn’t taste like much and I get it, it’s fish crisps but somehow I was expecting more from crisps served right by the lake.

The “pear sorbet” (CHF 3.50) and the “blood orange sorbet” (CHF 3.50), served with some fresh fruit, on the other hand, were quite tasty overall. So, while the main course wasn’t meeting my expectations, the other courses were absolutely fine.

All in all, the Restaurant Nidwaldnerhof offers an amazing view if you manage to book a table in advance (right next to the lake). Furthermore, the service does a good job and and is friendly. The dishes are okay, and so are the prices. If you want to enjoy your stay, make sure to book in advance.
