Incredibly bad service: Gourmet Bar @ Novotel City Basel (2. August 2018)
Given I was short on time, I decided to eat in the hotel I was staying and I went for the “mixed Swiss gourmet plate” (CHF 16.00) as a starter. The selection of cold cuts and cheeses was actually quite fine, however, there was one major downside to it all. It took them a solid 30 minutes to serve this. I mean, are you kidding me? This, from my perspective, can really not be. And the service was just in general so inattentive. I was trying to get their attention by basically waving at them but they decided to just not pay attention. Wow, really wow!
The “poached salmon steak on root vegetables with Chablis foam on swirling potatoes” (CHF 34.00) which I picked as a main tasted as pale as it looks in the picture. The salmon itself was good in terms of consistency and was also still a bit ‘glassy’ like it should be. However, it really tasted like nothing. Luckily, there is always salt and pepper which can pimp any dish.
The “bread and butter” was just that. And frankly speaking, the bread was definitely lacking freshness as it was already ‘crispy’ but in a way when it is open for too long already.
So, the Gourmet Bar definitely doesn’t keep its promise of being one. It is rather quite a disappointment with inattentive service. And waiting 30 minutes until you get your simple dish served is just way too long! In a nutshell, not worth dining here!
