Amazing drinks, food and view: Mezquite Bar (22. August 2018)

| January 6, 2019 | 0 Comments

The Mezquite Bar was another great find from the book ‘Where Chefs Eat‘. The place is not only serving great drinks and offers a marvelous view, it also serves tasty local dishes like the “Taco de Chapulin (con costra de quesillo, chapulines y guacamole, sobre tortilla de maíz)” (35 MXN) which is basically a taco with grasshoppers.

Frankly, at first, you might need some time to adjust to a dish like this as it is not really what you usually get in Europe but once you have kind of adjusted to eating insects, these bastards are actually super tasty. The grasshoppers are not really having much of an own taste but the crunchiness they add to the dish really make them tasty.

The “fava beans dip” as a courtesy of the house is nice. The “Agave Bramble (Gin Tanqueray, hierbabuena, zarzamora y miel de agave)” (110 MXN) on the other hand is truly delicious! Definitely worth trying when you are in Oaxaca.

The view you have from the terrace of the bar is marvelous – straight on the largest church in the city (which is a former monastery). And the terrace itself is nice in terms of setting.

The place is not only nice on the terrace but the whole location follows a concept of light, space, and modern decoration.

Last but not least, the service is also very attentive, friendly, and swift.

So, when you are in Oaxaca, the Mezquite is definitely a place you should visit for drinks (and potentially even to eat). The fact that you get a straight look into the kitchen when you go to the terrace is always a good sign.
