Nonexistent service but good snacks: Café Wester (2. September 2018)
If you are done sightseeing for the day and have been close to the Anne Frank house, I can definitely recommend you to do a quick stop at the Café Wester. The tables are all not really stable as they are located kind of on a hill but despite the moving setup, the place offers quite good snacks. I went for the “garlic aioli served with bread” (5.50 EUR), the “spicy spring rolls (deep fried spring rolls filled with beef served with sweet and sour chili sauce)” (EUR 5.00) and the “Van Dobben “Bitterballs” (the famous deep fried ‘Van Dobben’ bitterballs filled with beef served with mustard)” (EUR 6.50) which were all good. The spring rolls were my least favourite of them all but still okay.
What is a bit annoying about the place is the fact that the service is not really up to the task. If you sit outside, then it would take ages to finally place an order until someone gets outside and helps you. So, I went inside to order at the bar. At least then, things worked swiftly. Perfect to sit in the sun, enjoy the weather and some snacks, not for much else.
