Decent food but incredibly inattentive service: Restaurant Riva (15. October 2018)
It was time for another round of Italian food – as a starter I went for the “burrata with tomato basil pesto” (EUR 14.50) which was good. The tomatoes lacked a bit of flavour but the burrata was really great.
You do not find flank steak often – so I was super happy to find it on the menu here. The “Sirloin Flapsteak US (mushrooms truffled chips sauce Béarnaise)” (EUR 29.50) was delicious. Juicy. Medium-rare as requested. Full of flavour. The sauce Béarnaise was quite okay but a bit heavy.
The “truffled fries” on the other hand were rather disappointing. What was even more disappointing was the service – the waiter was just not attentive. It took ages until we got the menu, could place the order, and until the bread was brought.
All in all, the Riva is decent as the atmosphere is fine and the flap steak is actually mouth-watering. The rest isn’t that great – service is slow, prices are rather high (also for the beverages, e.g. 0,75l water for EUR 6.90 or EUR 79.00 for a Masi Amarone Costasera, 2012). It’s more a place to see and to be seen than for the food – although it’s decent. If you are a larger group or come for dinner early, I suppose pre-booking a table is recommendable.
