9. – 17. December 2010: Restaurant Rôtisserie @Hotel Maritim
A huge selection of different dishes is offered by the Restaurant Rôtisserie at the Maritim Hotel in Cologne. The selection ranges from cereals, orange juice, fresh eggs to bacon, sausages, smoked salmon, different meats, cheese, yoghurt. The buffet is tremendously large and the quality of the food is really good. The fruits are fresh, the cheese and meat as well and even the smoked salmon tastes great.
The buffet is several meters long and has several corners where you can find food – in the beginning it’s a bit tricky to orientate yourself but after a few minutes it perfectly works. In the middle of the buffet there’s a cook and you can order scrambled or regular eggs which are freshly prepared for you and brought to your table.
The waitresses are generally friendly and helpful – sometimes a bit unattentive though. Whereas some days they come right away and ask you if you want coffee or tea, other days they don’t really realize that you’re there although you have to mention your room number when you go to have breakfast.
The atmosphere of the place is okay – if you’re sitting outside then you’re in the large hallway of the hotel which is tremendously big and therefore it gives you a feeling like sitting outside in summer. On the other hand, the whole style is a bit old-fashioned and therefore seems a bit shabby.
The price is fair too accounting for 19 EUR for the breakfast – I don’t know if it’s possible for non-hotel guests to actually have breakfast, but if you’re in staying in that hotel anyway, you should definitely go for breakfast – it’s worth it.
The Restaurant Rôtisserie is located inside the Maritim Hotel which is close to the river Rhine and the “Deutzer Brücke”, about one kilometer away from the Kölner Dom. It is easily reachable by public transportation if you get off at the tube station “Heumarkt” which can be reached by line 1, 7, or 9.
