13. December 2010: Restaurant Brauerei zur Malzmühle

| December 19, 2010 | 0 Comments

Hearty, tasty, rich, good and solid food! That’s the best description for the dishes which are served at the Brauerei zur Malzmühle. The beefsteak I had (“Batzestöck vun d’r Höff” aka “Rinderhüftsteak”) with garlic butter, French fries, and salad was really good. The meat was tender and cooked perfectly medium (although I haven’t been asked how I wanted the meat). The sauce – the garlic butter – was good, the French fries were okay too (not crispy enough for my personal taste) and the salad was fine as well.

The waiter walks around with a so called “Körbis” which is basically kind of a tray with a handle which is made just for glasses of beer and he just keeps walking around and you immediately get one when yours is empty. The perfect beer-service, seriously! He is very correct but I wouldn’t exactly call it friendly the way he behaves – it’s more like “I have to serve you, so I do because it’s my job but honestly, I hate doing that”.

The atmosphere of the place is pretty cool because the place looks really old and shabby from the outside but once you’ve entered the place the picture changes – the rooms are tall and white, the area is spacious and the old wooden tables provide a nice contrast to the white walls.

The prices are also pretty decent (EUR 1.55 for 2 dl beer; 17,80 EUR for the beefsteak) so you can easily have a full rich meal for less than 20 EUR (as actually the beefsteak was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu).

The Restaurant Braurei zur Malzmühle is located within walking distance from the Restaurant Rôtisserie at the Hotel Maritim and the Restaurant Bellevue at the Hotel Maritim. Therefore, it is also easily reachable by public transportation (get off at “Heumarkt” and take line 1, 7, or 9 with the metro).

All in all, the Restaurant Brauerei zur Malzmühle is the perfect place to go and have a hearty dish and some beers. It’s generally nice, the waiter is the perfect beer-servant, the dishes are tasty and hearty and the prices are pretty low.
