15. + 16. December 2010: Restaurant Kölsch Stuff @Hotel Maritim
Hearty, typical German dishes fit the description of the food selection of the Restaurant Kölsch Stuff in the Maritim Hotel in Cologne best. The Stuff Pfännchen (EUR 19.10) I’ve had on Wednesday offered a great selection of meat (beef, veal and chicken) and was accompanied by a salad (pretty regular in taste) and French Fries (not really crispy enough). The meat was astonishingly good and also decent in size. Only the garlic butter was not enough for the whole plate – but at least it was good in taste.
The Wiener Schnitzel (EUR 16.80) I’ve had on Thursday was good but it was nothing like a real Wiener Schnitzel. First of all, it was too thick, secondly, it was not even closely large enough, and thirdly the Wiener Schnitzel was way to greasy. At the least the potatoe and corn salad with curry salad sauce was pretty good.
The Restaurant Kölsch Stuff is located at the beginning of the huge middle hall of the Hotel Maritim and is therefore a place where a lot of people pass by which is kind of annoying. In addition, it’s allowed to smoke in that restaurant – also a major downturn. In addition, the decoration “outside” is not really appealing (the inside is okay though).
The waiters are friendly and helpful – but it sometimes takes them way too much time to fulfil your orders. Otherwise, not really anything to complain about when it comes to the service.
The prices are decent too – although I thought at first that the EUR 19.10 for the Stuff Pfännchen were quite much they are totally okay when you have a closer look at the portion you get and the quality of the meat. For the “Wiener Schnitzel” (or what they sell as it), it is a bit expensive though as it doesn’t fulfil its own description. Still, the Kölsch Stuff is a good place to go and have a Kölsch (beer) and eat something heart. Don’t take the Wiener Schnitzel though – do that in Vienna!
