When half of the food isn’t on the menu anymore: Restaurant Osteria Little Italy (5. December 2018)

| December 15, 2018 | 0 Comments

The Osteria Little Italy is among the best ranked restaurants in Basel on TripAdvisor. Now frankly, I kind of understand it after enjoying the whole evening, however, when I initially got there, I didn’t quite share that impression. Once I had decided what to eat which was basically veal and burrata, I was informed that the dishes were no longer on the menu.

So, I decided to go for “Insalata Caprese con Mozzarella di Bufala” (CHF 16.00) which wasn’t bad either but it is definitely not tomato season anymore as they are definitely not ripe.

As a main, I went for the “fegato di vitello (CH) alla Veneziana with risotto” (CHF 32.00) which was absolutely delicious. The risotto is nicely creamy and yet has a nice bite of the rice corns. The fegato is absolutely mouth-watering and for CHF 32.00 you get a decent portion which also tastes great.

The service is doing its best yet they somehow do not manage to be too attentive. I suppose they somehow realized during the evening that their game wasn’t up to the task and, therefore, offered a free grappa in the end of the evening. Quite lovely as a gesture, I’d say. All in all, I can recommend the Osteria Little Italy. It does come close to an Italian restaurant as I know it from Italy – admittedly, not a 100% but close to it. Definitely worth visiting when you are in Basel – just make sure you book a table in advance.
