Overrated: The perfect description for the birth place of the Singapore Sling: Long Bar @ The Raffles Hotel (2. January 2019)

| May 6, 2019 | 0 Comments

I was told the Long Bar at The Raffles Hotel is an absolute must, so my expectations were relatively high. And frankly, I was a bit disappointed. Not only because The Raffles Hotel is currently being renovated so you don’t really see it and you cannot enter but also because the queue there is and the time you have to spend to actually get a seat at the bar is too long for what it offers.

Admittedly, it is the birth place of the “Singapore Sling (Widges London Dry Gin, Bénédictine, Luxardo Cherry Sangue Morlacco, Ferrand Dry Curaçao, Raffles Signature Grenadine, Pineapple Juice, Fresh Lime Juice, Angostura Bitters)” (32.00 SGD) and that alone is worth seeing, I suppose. And yes, the Singapore Sling is actually super tasty. But then again the whole place is just somewhat hyped.

Of course, the bar is lovely and somewhat traditional and the bar tenders do a great job at mixing drinks and having a steady flow of Singapore Slings coming.

And the fact that you get to take peanuts from one of the various bags which are all over the bar and you just through the shells onto the ground is interesting of course.

But frankly, I cannot see the actual fascination with this place. Maybe it was also a question of expectations (being too high) but all in all, nothing out of the ordinary.
