Good tapas selection with good service just until the end: Restaurant Bar Celona (5. February 2019)

It is seven years ago that I have been to this place. Frankly speaking, I was surprised it still existed. I mean, it wasn’t bad last time but still – that a place holds for years is usually a good sign. Well, so it was time to give the Bar Celona a try again and I went full monty for quite a selection of tapas, i.e. “albondigas (spicy beef balls in a fruity tomato sauce, cheese au gratin, spring onions)” (EUR 5.25), “Pimientos de Padrón (small, green, spicy, fried Spanish bell peppers with salt)” (EUR 5.25), “Celona’s garlic prawns (prawns with a herb garlic dip, fried, served with spring onions and fresh bread)” (EUR 11.50), “Pollo Empanado (breaded chicken breast stripes)” (EUR 5.45), “Sweet Potato Fries (prepared from sweet potatoes)” (EUR 4.95) plus “Patatas Arrugadas (small, typical Mediterranean potatoes in a thin salt crust, served with mojo verde and sour cream)” (EUR 5.35). It wasn’t like in Spain – of course. But it was good. The meat was tasty, the potatoes were good. Only the prawns weren’t really to my liking as they weren’t crispy enough for my personal gusto.

The waitress did a marvelous job at first – she was swift, friendly, helpful. When we wanted to order, she even let us know that we could order the ‘combo’ for EUR 19.95 and add four tapas making sure we would pay way less than if we would have ordered them separately. However, when it came to paying the bill, it turned out to be tricky as our table was unattended for more than 15 minutes. I finally decided to give the restaurant a call and direct them to our table – that always works.
