Good tapas selection and lovely atmosphere: Restaurant Idéal Café & Weinbar (6. February 2019)
Although I have been to Münster a couple of times, I somehow had never spotted the Idéal Café & Weinbar – which is a pity as the place is lovely. I decided to have a relaxed evening with a book while enjoying some tapas and a glass of wine (Fabelhaft, 0,2l, EUR 8.00). I went for a boccadillo with serrano ham – however, they only serve those until 6pm, so I decided to go for the regular “Serrano ham” (EUR 7.00) which was overly covered with capers which I didn’t feel like having. But the ham was fine.
Secondly, I went for “Chorizo in red wine sauce” (EUR 6.50), “hot goat cheese with red onion jam” (EUR 6.50) and “mozzarella skewers” (EUR 6.00). The mozzarella skewers were nothing special but the Acceto balsamico they had served was actually quite nice. The goat cheese was lovely to eat in combination with the red onion jam – however, it was a bit tricky to eat. What I really liked was the chorizo in red wine sauce! Delicious!
I felt like having aioli so I went for the “bread basket with aioli” (EUR 2.50) which is coming for free though if you order other tapas. The bread is nice, the aioli not so special though.
What I liked about the place was the atmosphere – spacious, classy, nice, just very comfortable. They managed to create an atmosphere of comfort perfectly! Which is seconded by the staff – the waitress was generally attentive and super friendly and helpful! What wasn’t so great that you can only pay with a German EC card. I know it’s Münster which is not really the centre of the universe but not even with a foreign EC card? Come on! So I was forced to go to the next ATM – which didn’t work! Back to the restaurant I explained the situation and the owner was fine with me paying next week. Some kind of trust I would not have expected, however, very happy it worked out that way (and yes, I did pay).
For me, so far, this is definitely my favourite restaurant in Münster so far!
