Surprisingly good main station food: Restaurant zum Schiffchen @ Hbf Düsseldorf (7. February 2019)
Sometimes you walk into a place because there are literally no other feasible options around you. The Zum Schiffchen was more or less the only ‘restaurant’ which was there – and it’s located in the main station of Düsseldorf but it didn’t look too bad. I went for the “tomato cream soup” (EUR 4.90) as a starter which was served within a few minutes and was, honestly speaking, absolutely okay.
As a main, I went for a typical local dish called “Himmel & Ähd (fried black pudding, mashed potatoes with apples, friend onion and apple slices)” (EUR 9.50) which basically means heaven and soil – and was delicious. Especially the combination of the mashed potatoes with the apples was something I haven’t tried and liked quite a lot.
The prices are super fair, the service was swift and helpful (plus friendly) and the atmosphere is okay. So, if you are hungry around the main station of Düsseldorf, the Zum Schiffchen is definitely a place you can try.
