Suprisingly good steakhouse where you’d not expect it: Restaurant Scharfer Zahn (12. February 2019)

At first I was a bit skeptical about the Scharfer Zahn as the place doesn’t really look much like a steakhouse from the outside – but I was admittedly positively surprised. We went for a “starter platter with red hot chilli poppers, chicken sticks, tomatoes and mozzarella and salad” (EUR 11.85 – 1.5x times the regular size) which was surprisingly fine. I mean, the quality of the meat is not really overwhelming or anything but it is fine. What was truly delicious though was the salad and its sauce – truly liked it!

As a main course, I went for the “ScharferZahn Special – Argentinean beef filet (300gr)” (EUR 28.90) served with “home-made herb butter” (EUR 1.90) which was incredibly delicious and “chrono sauce” (EUR 2.40) which wasn’t really something worth trying. The “freshly grilled vegetables” (EUR 3.80) were good and the “roasted onions” (EUR 2.90) were mouth-watering! All in all, I can definitely recommend the Scharfer Zahn – delicious, tender tasty meat with amazing herb butter and great roasted onions.

What is very mediocre though is the wine selection – the “Osbourne Salaz Tempranillo” (EUR 20.00) is something you can drink. But definitely not more. I mean, sharing one bottle by three people is about as much as you want to have – definitely not more. The service is friendly, helpful and attentive – only the additional water glasses we had asked for were temporarily forgotten. Nothing too bad but of course also not ideal. Surprisingly enough, even though it was a Monday, you should ideally book in advance. The place was rather crowded. Definitely a can do though!
