Breath-taking grotto in the city outskirts: Restaurant Grotto della Salute (23. February 2019)

| May 11, 2019 | 0 Comments

I was looking for something which would really give away that feeling of a grotto and stumbled over the Grotto della Salute which was still within the city reaches and after a short cab ride, it turned out, it was a good decision. When you have taken your seat, some bread is brought to your table and you just want to indulge into the lovely typical focaccia and grissini! And you should!

Then, they served a small “tomato & mozzarella snack” which was nice especially since it was warm – but nothing spectacular in terms of flavour.

What I loved was my starter – the “gnocchi di zucca con nocciole tostate al burro tartufato” (CHF 22.00) were not only perfectly creamy but also had an amazing consistency. The nut pieces were a tiny bit too many for my personal gusto but with the pumpkin taste it was a really great combination!

If you are super hungry, then the “cotoletta di vitello servita con pomodorini, capperi e rucola (“Milanesa”)” (CHF 40.00) is definitely the right choice for you! The piece of meat is huge! I mean, humongous! Frankly, one single person cannot eat that alone – it’s just too much. And I really was hungry!

The “polenta” which I had requested as a side dish was nicely smooth and not grainy at all. And just somehow richer in flavour than many polentas I have had in my life before.

I suppose in summer, the place is even nicer if you get to score a table outside when it’s warm. Obviously, end of February, sitting outside wasn’t an option but in summer it must be perfectly relaxing!

But also the inside has a very nice atmosphere and is definitely worth visiting …

… and maybe even walking into the wine cellar to look at the lovely selection of wines! If you’re looking for a wine with a good price performance ratio, you should go for the “Soler, 2014” (CHF 55.00).

All in all, the Restaurant Grotto della Salute is very much worth taking the short cab ride from the city center! The place is lovely and the food is delicious. The service is swift and attentive and making sure you have everything you need at all times.
