Relatively authentic Italian: Restaurant La Gondola D’Oro (4. March 2019)
As a little welcome from the kitchen, some “bruschetta” was served which was surprisingly tasty. The piece of bread was not really necessary from my point of view because it was kind of too much bread at once but I must admit that the bruschetta was a nice – unexpected – welcome.
As a starter I went for the “Insalata Caprese (tomatoes, mozzarella, basil)” (EUR 8.50) and the tomatoes were definitely tastier and better in flavour than expected for any kind of tomatoes during this time of the year. They could have been a bit more generous with the mozzarella but for a starter it was still a decent portion.
As a main, I decided to have “Fegato alla Veneziana (veal liver with roasted onions in a white wine sauce)” (EUR 17.50) and while the liver was actually quite tasty, the potatoes were not boiled to my taste.
The place is simple in terms of interior decoration but it is also nice in its own way. The service is attentive, friendly, and we even got offered a schnaps at the very end. The wine selection is rather limited but the “Amarone Albino Armani” (EUR 56.00) is actually quite nice. So, all in all, the Gondola D’Oro is a restaurant which serves relatively authentic Italian food. Booking in advance is recommended as the place was almost full on a Monday evening.
