Truly heavy and hearty dishes from Westphalia: Restaurant Drübbelken (25. March 2019)
If you are looking for some truly hearty and heavy food from Westphalia, then the Drübbelken is the place you should go to when you’re in Münster. I started with a “meat paste on bread on a wooden board” (EUR 11.90) which was absolutely delicious as a starter – but also not exactly on the light side, especially since you were also offered “lard bread” on top of the regular order.
As a main I went for the “filet pan Drübbelken (beef and pork filet with mushroom sauce, fried potatoes, bacon, onions, and salad)” (EUR 27.90). At first, I was of the impression that the amount was not enough – especially when it came to the meat and, frankly, considering that the thing is called filet pan, I think they could have been a bit more generous with the meat. However, all in all, it is more than enough! The fried potatoes with bacon and onions really make a solid dish. The quality of the meat was somehow better than expected! So, for a relatively decent price you get a great meal!
On top of that, you also get a salad as a side dish. I had expected a green leaves salad but it was actually a mixed salad with quite some different ingredients making it almost a dish of itself. Especially in combination, the two make more than a solid meal!
Overall, the Drübbelken is one of this local joints where you can find great dishes for a good price and you will definitely walk out with your tummy full! Given the place was almost entirely full on a Monday evening, it is highly recommended to book a table in advance. We were super lucky and basically got the last available table! The service is a bit at its limit, especially since the tables are spread across three floors, but remains composed and friendly at all times. One lesson when it comes to ordering – order your refill (for e.g. a beer) already when your current drink is only half empty as it takes a while.
