The perfect Swiss fix before take off – nothing more though: Restaurant Chalet Suisse @ Zurich Airport (27. March 2019)
Before taking off to the Middle East, nothing is better than having one or two bites of proper Swiss cuisine before that. Therefore, the best place to do exactly that in the Zurich airport is the Chalet Suisse. Although I have never been there before, it always smells like cheese when I pass there. As a starter I went for the “Chalet Suisse Platter (with Graubünden air-dried meat, Limmattal cured ham, farmer’s sausage, smoked bacon, gherkins and pickled onions)” (CHF 18.50) and the “variety of Swiss cheeses: Tête de Moine, Sbrinz and goat’s milk cream cheese” (+ CHF 5.90). Frankly speaking, the price is a bit of a stretch but at least you get some nibbles and snacks before take off.
The “Swiss Cordon Bleu (Swiss pork escalope stuffed with Gruyère cheese and ham, served with French fries)” (CHF 26.90) is a disappointment. It is really one of these pre-made cordon bleus you would just put in the pan with some butter and that’s it. I mean, I did not really expect much more from a place in the airport, however, it was a bit of a disappointment.
The service was super friendly and helpful at first but that changed when we wanted to order the bill. Then somehow people seem to lose their ability to act quick and it took them a solid 30 minutes to bring the bill – definitely too long! Besides that, the place is not that atmospheric. So yes, if you want some proper typical Swiss food before take off, this is the place to go in the Zurich airport – if you are looking for a proper culinary experience, I would suggest to go somewhere else (ideally, outside of the airport, or the First Class Lounge).
