Atmospheric, decent food and loud: Buddha Bar @ Grosvenor House Dubai (28. March 2019)

The Buddha Bar is always a good place to enjoy a drink, some decent food and all that in a nice atmosphere. As a starter I went for the “Far East Julep (gin, shisho and mint leaves, agave, banana liquor, passion fruit, lychee)” (78 AED) which wasn’t anything like a Mint Julep (to which the drinks relates) besides the way it was served. But it was actually super refreshing and enjoyable.

As a starter selection we had a couple of different dishes to share like the “Buddha Bar Chicken Salad (Chinese Cabbage, Five Spiced Chicken, Crispy Wontons, Dijon Mustard, Sesame Oil Dressing)” (100 AED), the “Spiced Tuna Tartare (Sriracha, Avocado, Crispy Wontons)” (100 AED), the “Crispy Fried Calamari (Crispy pickled ginger & shallots, chopped coriander, friend onions, tamarind sauce)” (115 AED) as well as the “Lobster Dumpling (fried lobster and scallop dumpling, chili crab sauce, apple mint salad)” (AED 115). The dishes were all fine but far away from mind-boggling – the best of it was actually the spiced tuna tartare. The rest was somehow having too much sauce.

When it comes to the main course, the “Wok Seared Cantonese Beef (Beef tenderloin, Cantonese barbeque sauce, broccolini, served with steamed Jasmine rice)” (200 AED) was surprisingly great. The beef was tender and smooth and the sauce was intense but still lovely.

What I like about the place is the atmosphere – the place is vibrant, the DJ turns up the music and makes sure it turns from a restaurant slowly into a club. The waitresses and waiters are well-trained but sometimes get carried away a bit. At least ours got carried away a bit after we’ve realized we have some things in common (like study and birth place). In any case, the service is dedicated, friendly, and relatively swift. So, all in all, the Buddha Bar is a good location to enjoy a dinner in a nice atmosphere with decent food. Booking in advance highly recommended!
