Delicious lunch but incredibly slow service: Restaurant Am Gallusplatz (8. April 2019)
This is probably the best place for lunch I have visited so far in St. Gallen – but only under the condition that you have a lot of time at hand to enjoy your lunch. We sat down and it took them a solid 10 minutes to bring us the menu. The reason being “we ran out of menus”. I mean, okay, I get it, you maybe don’t need as many as you have seats but the place wasn’t even full. Frankly, I don’t have much understanding for that. Finally, I decided to have the “salad of the day” (CHF 9.80) which was admittedly super rich but as a menu salad (even if you don’t order it as part of the lunch menu) it is rather expensive.
The “classic schnitzel from Vienna with potato cucumber salad, mountain cranberry, lemon)” (CHf 39.00) was good although I was hoping to get a large flat one and not one with two pieces. Still, tasty, worth taking.
The interior of the Restaurant am Gallusplatz is lovely and really makes you enjoy your lunch. Furthermore, the service is friendly and after the initial slowness also swift and efficient. So, if you have time, the Restaurant am Gallusplatz is perfect for a luscious, extensive lunch. If you are looking more for a swift lunch solution, it isn’t.
