Very honest and down to earth Italian food: Restaurant Baratella (20. May 2019)
More than two years ago, I paid the Baratella a visit and I was brought here again – already back then I had wondered about the place as it does not look overly appealing from the outside but the same is still true as then. The place is simple, nice, and you get good dishes for a very fair price for lunch. I went for the “minestrone” (CHF 10.50) as a starter which was lovely and quite heavy on the vegetables.
The “pasta carbonara” (CHF 24.50) with a fresh egg yolk on top was admittedly rather heavy with its sauce but it was also absolutely delicious and very recommendable.
The waitress was attentive and friendly, almost jovial. The place is not really eye candy but has something down-to-earth and traditional which makes it appealing nevertheless. The prices are also very reasonable with CHF 5.00 for a “double espresso”, respectively CHF 5.80 for a 0,5l mineral water. Given the place is not located that centrally, a reservation for lunch is not necessary but still recommended as it gets relatively crowded (although it wasn’t completely full when we walked in).
