A new restaurant in the former ‘Barolo’: Restaurant La Follia (23. May 2019)
The La Follia is the restaurant which I used to frequent when I was studying in St. Gallen – however, the ‘Barolo’ doesn’t exist anymore and La Follia has taken over. For a couple of years already, I have been told. Given it was one of the first quite sunny days outside, we had lunch at a nice table and started with a “insalta del giorno” (CHF 7.50) which was really just a green salad with some toppings but fine in terms of price performance.
The “gnocchi casalinghi con formaggio di capra, barbe di frate e mango” (CHF 27.50) were definitely interesting as I have never tried gnocchi with fruit. I have had different things with fruit but gnocchi? Well, the mango fit pretty well and was overall a good combination. It was a bit heavy on the cream but still good in terms of what you get for what you pay for.
The view outside is quite nice as you are basically looking at the old church which is right in front of the restaurant. Furthermore, the service is friendly and nice but not entirely up to the task – she had certain difficulties memorizing the dishes we had ordered – and it was so visibly clear the moment she left the table so nobody was surprised when she returned 60 seconds later. In any case, friendly, and generally swift. Fine for lunch.
