A lovely little restaurant with a hidden entrance: Restaurant Le Bouquet Garni (7. June 2019)

Given the decision to pay a visit to Luxembourg was a rather last minute one, there was no chance to actually get a table at a Michelin starred restaurant within the city of Luxembourg. Furthermore, the majority of the Michelin starred restaurants in Luxembourg City are closed on Saturday and Sunday which I already found quite surprising!

However, we followed the ‘Bib Gourmand’ of the Michelin guide and ended up in the “Le Bouquet Garni” which is a little restaurant on three floors with an entrance which is quite hidden. Once you’ve found it and entered it, you are brought (at leats on the second floor) in to a lovely room with about 10 to 12 tables and if you’re lucky (and just two), then you’re seated near a window with a lovely view.

I went for the “Menu Gourmand” (EUR 49.00) which started with little appetizers like a “salmon club sandwich and caramelized nuts” which was both surprisingly lovely.

As an “amuse bouche” a soup was served which was rather average in aroma but nice to get something warm as an amuse bouche which is rather exceptional.

As a first course, I went for the “tartar of langoustine with glasswort and hazelnuts, sprinkled with a strong broth made of shells and lemongrass” (which cost an additional EUR 7.00) and I must say that it good. The langoustine was aromatic and the topping did its part to make it a good dish.

The next course was “back of cod golden brown with butter, mashed potatoes with confit lemon and asparagus” …

… where some ‘Virgin sauce with anchovy and peanuts” was poured on …

… to look quite lovely in the end. I personally liked the dish quite a bit as it was an interplay of textures, temperatures and aromas.

The “selected cheese platter” (EUR 8.00) which I took in between was somewhat disappointing as the cheese was relatively bland and not really interesting in terms of flavors and texture.

The “Vanilla mille-feuilles, salted butter caramel” (EUR 6.00) on the other hand combined all my favorite sweet flavors like vanilla and caramel , so, for my standards it made for a perfect dessert.

The restaurant itself is quite lovely and appealing and the service – after what seemed like an initial responsibility confusion – was professional, yet with the right level of joviality, and friendly at all times. So, all in all, I can recommend you to dine at the Restaurant Le Bouquet Garni and I would recommend you to book your table in advance as else your chance to get one seems quite limited!
