Appearances are deceiving: Restaurant Brasserie chez Matelots (8. June 2019)
Sometimes, TripAdvisor is a reliable source if you want to find a restaurant on short notice which is open and offers quite good food – and the Brasserie chez Matelots was exactly that! At first you would not necessarily want to enter as the place does not look that appealing from the outside but once you’ve entered and moved to the back of the restaurant, you find a super lovely room which is atmospheric and themed like the living place of a sailor (or at least how I would imagine it).
I went for something small and typical for the region – a “Gallette Iroise (smoked salmon, cream from Isigny with lemon, chives and Sichuan pepper, red onions from Brittany and pink berries)” (EUR 17.50). I did not expect that much but it was actually, in terms of taste, super delicious. They could have served a tiny bit more horseradish with the salmon but besides that – great, light, tasty.
I also ‘discovered’ “rosé cider” which is something I haven’t tried before – and it was surprisingly delicious! Furthermore, the waitress was incredibly friendly, patient, and yet swift in serving the dishes. So all in all, the Brasserie chez Matelots is definitely a place you can and should visit when you stroll through the City of Luxembourg and start feeling hungry.
