Great location with limited service capabilities: Restaurant El Theatris (9. June 2019)

Given Luxembourg City is not really big enough to spend three days there, it was time to go to Metz in France for a day trip (~45 minutes train ride from Luxembourg) which is quite a lovely little town with a lot of historic buildings and – due to its rivers – quite atmospheric. Obviously though, it would be better to visit it on another day than Sunday as a lot of things are closed which would be worth visiting (most importantly: the food market).

As an “amuse bouche” they served some kind of mousse with a pickled shallot which was bland in taste.

As a starter, I went for the “Gaspacho de Courgettes, Ganache au Chèvre Frais, Chorizo Grillé” (EUR 7.00) which was tasting like absolutely nothing. Not even the chunky pieces of meat which were supposed to be Chorizo did the trick and improved the dish. Frankly, no thanks.

However, the “Les Ravioles de Volaille (à l’estragon et champignons, févettes et bouillon de poule)” (EUR 17.00) were actually quite delicious. Especially the chicken broth in which they were served was not only intense but also fun to taste. What was disappointing though was the portion size. There were five ravioli in there. Not enough for a main course, if you ask me.

The location of the El Theatris is quite nice as it is located basically on the space in front of the theater of the city and in front of the cathedral. So, if you manage to get a table outside in the sun, take advantage of that. But frankly, I’d probably only have a drink or a glass of wine there and wouldn’t eat if I had to choose again as the dishes are not that exquisite!
