Quite a typical tourist trap: Restaurant Esplanada do Cantinho (22. June 2019)
We ended up in the “Esplanada do Cantinho” because we needed to drink something and a bio break. Given the weather was nice and we were able to sit outside while sipping our “jar of Sangria” (EUR 16.80), we eventually got hungry and went for the “little fried sardines” (EUR 7.90). While I had asked for a small portion, I think 5 sardines are a bit at the very lower limit of a small portion. Else, they were – well, fried sardines.
The “Chorizo asado con pickles” (EUR 8.90) was in thus far interesting as the pickles were actually more pickled cauliflower. Also okay but not really what I would call pickles.
The “gambas al ajillo” (EUR 12.50) on the other hand weren’t really that great – too dry, not enough garlic sauce. So, not really recommendable. Especially considering how many prawns were in the pot and checking the price. Well, I guess, it’s your own fault if you go to a tourist place.
All of that translated throughout – the place isn’t really that atmospheric as it is located at a street, the service is pretty much non-existent, respectively, you have to be super patient until they finally realize that you want to order something. And even then it takes ages – among other things, to realize that cutlery is missing and I probably won’t be able to eat the gambas by hand. So, all in all, yeah, works but not worth visiting.
