Vegan isn’t so bad after all: Restaurant Veganapati (23. June 2019)

Whenever someone takes me to a vegan restaurant I put my expectations at the lowest level possible as I believe you’re just missing out on things in terms of nutrients when you don’t eat any meat or diary products. Said that, I followed the rest of the group and gave in to visiting a vegan place – and I was positively surprised. The “veganapati guacamole, crispy adai” (EUR 4.50) tasted similar to regular guacamole and was – actually – quite tasty. The crispy adai wasn’t entirely practical as it was too weak to eat the guacamole with so it always broke in pieces, but else it was better than expected.

As a main, I went for the “dosa (lentil-based vegetable stew, coconut chutney, mint chutney and tomato chutney)” (EUR 9.00) as the guests next to our table had exactly that and it looked not only big but also interesting. Turns out that it was rather boring. The bread is – to some degree – interesting as it is relatively thin and flavorful but the stuffing which is kind of a curry potato mash is rather boring and the sauces – which sound nice – don’t taste like much. So frankly speaking, the main course was relatively boring.

At least the beverages like a “mango lassi” (EUR 5.00) and the “smoothie of the day” (EUR 2.50) were refreshing and tasty. Well, so, all in all, a vegan place will never become my favorite place to visit for lunch (or dinner or anything) but I must revise my view on vegan places. They can produce decent food.
