Still remains an excellent place for Greek food and wine: Restaurant Yamas (21. August 2019)

It is about three years ago since I’ve paid my last visit to Yamas. I used to frequent the place almost on a weekly basis when working in its vicinity. Somehow, since then I haven’t managed to go there but I figured it would be a good location for an evening with friends and wine. We started with the “yamas dip with pita bread (tzatziki, fava, tirokafteri)” (CHF 14.50) which was a nice start to create a basis in your stomach.

The “octopus served on Fava Santorini (with sweet tomato sauce and red bell paprica)” (CHF 19.00) was absolutely exquisite! The pulpo was so darn soft and not chewy at all – something I had not expected from an octopus served in Switzerland. I must say, one of the best octopus’ I have eaten in quite a while.

Given sharing was the idea of the night, we went for “meze (Keftedekia beef balls in tomato sauce, manouri with dried fig sauce, mixed gyros)” (CHF 45.00) which was not only a large portion but it was also absolutely yummy and mouth-watering. Simple, hearty, Greek food but all prepared in a very enjoyable way.

The place is quite nice – even though it is tiny and only offers space for about 15-20 people, it is usually quite packed and you need to find your space – or book in advance to make sure you’ll actually have space. I would recommend the latter.

And something I was quite pleasantly surprised by was the fact that they have quite nice Greek red wines like the “Cyrus One 2016, La Tour Melas” (CHF 63.00) or the “Biblinos, 2012 (Biblia Chora)” (CHF 66.00). The Yamas remains a great choice for an evening with Greek tapas style dishes, red wine, and friends.
