Authentic US fried chicken experience: Restaurant Yardbird Southern Fried Chicken (9. October 2019)

| November 4, 2019 | 0 Comments

Finding a place which serves fried chicken like they do in the US is something which was – until recently – completely impossible in Zurich. But for some time now, the restaurant Yardbird offers exactly that. The place really has one offering which you should visit it for – their fried chicken!

Make sure to book your table in advance as it is usually quite crowded – so much is said upfront. I really liked the place as it is absolutely atmospheric, friendly, and you feel comfortable right away. What I also like is the fact that they have most tables for four people but they do not cram people in so you eventually get to sit at a table for four even if you’re only two. And last but not least – before we get to the food – the waitresses are super friendly and incredibly swift.

I had ordered the “Caesar salad (buttermilk chicken strips)” (CHF 13.00) as a starter and about 3 to 4 minutes after I had placed the order, it was ready! Admittedly, it’s not rocket science to make a caesar salad as all the ingredients can be prepared upfront, however, I was (positively) surprised, how quick it actually went! Now, in terms of the caesar salad it wasn’t that insightful. The dish was fine but nothing spectacular.

That changed quite a bit when I went for the main – the “Classic Style Southern Fried Chicken (our house recipe of buttermilk-crusted chicken)” (CHF 25.50) with “home-made Ranch sauce” (CHF 3.00). You get to pick between either 3 chicken legs or 9 chicken wings and I went for the wings (as I find them easier to eat). The chicken is absolutely delicious as the inside is still soft and juicy (in a pleasant way) while the exterior is perfectly fried with a lovely batter! The ranch sauce in which you dip your chicken wings is also fine but that was – to me – nothing particularly amazing. The salad did the trick to make me feel like I was also having something healthy but else not worth trying.

Even the “large lemonade” (CHF 6.50) I had ordered was served within a few minutes only. And I believe that is just so key to the success of a business (besides good food) – the speed and friendliness (in combination) of the service. They really make you want to return because you feel so comfortable, so nice, so relaxed! And the food is really worth trying! As initially stated, just make sure to book your table in advance!
