Delicious briskets but sub-terrestrial service: Restaurant Brisket – Southern BBQ & Bar (10. December 2019)

| December 29, 2019 | 0 Comments

I like the Restaurant Brisket as a concept as it offers something you do not find in Zurich in another restaurant. Their core product are briskets. And that’s basically what they are famous for and I must say, the brisket I tried was absolutely tender and just delicious. However, there are a couple of flaws about the concept.

The first thing which is also part of a problem I’ll mention later is the fact that the place is rather huge and it is absolutely packed (hint: book a table in advance), therefore, there is no chance that you score a table last minute. Which then leads to the problem that there aren’t enough waiters as they are a few basically running around non-stop yet not being enough to make sure you get your stuff within a reasonable amount of time.

We went for the “Hillbilly Tempura (deep fried home-made pickles & seasonal veggies)” (CHF 12.00) and nachos with minced beef as a starter. And it took them about 10 minutes to serve them. Which is absoluteyl okay. And while I was not such a big fan of the nachos, the tempura was surprisingly great.

But then, the waiting began! We waited one (!) hour for that plate of food we had ordered, the “Texas Triangle (shredded chicken, pulled pork, brisket, total about 300gr / person) with bread, pickles” (CHF 37.50 per person). Frankly, it was worth the wait as the food was very good. At least I loved the brisket and the pulled pork. However, waiting one hour (!) for that is just off! I mean, if your main product is briskets which it is given you call your restaurant like that then it is just offensive to let your customers wait for one hour for the main course!

And just to make things worse, the “BBQ beans” were burnt. If you need one hour to serve the food – at least make sure it is not burnt!

The “Mac ‘n’ Cheese” (+ CHF 3.00) which we choose as a second side dish (and cost an additional CHF 3.00) was okay but also nothing overwhelming.

At least the “home-made sauces” were good.

Now, to wrap it up – the meat is good. The rest isn’t really. Plus one hour to wait for that. Wow, a new low, I’d say. And the really sad part is, the waiter was super friendly and really tried his best but he never stood a chance as the kitchen was way too slow (on their signature dish) and the place is way too crowded.

At least, they got some points when I left when I saw this little sign here which made me laugh!

So, to be honest, the other restaurants of their conglomerate like “The Bite” (for burgers) or the Southern Fried Chicken (for fried chicken) are better. I liked the brisket but everything around isn’t up to speed (yet)! Maybe I’ll give it another try in a couple of months – not so soon again though.
