Authentic location but not persuading Italian dishes: Restaurant La Baracca (8. January 2020)

| February 19, 2020 | 0 Comments

The La Baracca remains a reliable place for good Italian food. Once you’re seated, you get a little plate of pizza slices which are simple yet nice.

We went – as a starter – for a plate of cold cuts and some burrata which offers a nice selection of different, tasty Italian cured meats.

The “Pappardelle ‘Bologna Mon Amour’ (ragu di manzo, funghi, panna, parmigiano e tartufo)” (CHF 34.50) are apparently one of their signature dishes which I decided to go for. And frankly, it was quite good. There are two things which were a bit disturbing – on the one hand side, the portion was relatively small and that was confirmed when the table next to ours got the same dish but the portion size was about double. Secondly, and that was the part which was actually bothering me, the dish was only lukewarm which I somehow resent as I would love to get served hot food and then decide at what temperature I want to eat it.

The place is lovely, atmospheric, loud, Italian. Now, the service is the same – they are friendly, generally professional, and jovial. However, when it comes to getting their attention it can at times take quite a bit of time until they notice you that you e.g. want a bit more sparkling water. In any case, all in all, the La Baracca remains a good choice for a tasty Italian dinner. Booking in advance is a must as else you won’t stand a chance to score a table.
