Japanese tea ceremony in a traditional setting: Machiya Cafe Kanna (11. March 2020)

| April 6, 2020 | 0 Comments

After all sights which were on the top list of to dos were done, it started raining, which was just the perfect moment to make a little pause and rest at the Machiya Cafe Kanna as they offer nice tea sets with sweet nibbles. I went for the “Japanese black tea set” (880 Yen) which was basically black tea (nothing exciting there) with some small matcha chocolate cakes, a reindeer cookie and some other cookies which were all very lovely.

What I liked about the place is the traditional Japanese setting where you have to take your shoes off when you get in and you sit on the ground and the table is maybe 30 centimeters from the ground making it (at least for a European who isn’t used to sit that way) relatively uncomfortable to sit after some time.

In any case, once you’ve found a comfortable position, the place is absolutely lovely and inviting – definitely perfect for resting a bit while the weather is about to clear up again.

Make sure to go to the Japanese part of the café as it is where the ‘real’ experience is happening!
