When the intern is attending you and you just won’t get your glass of wine: Restaurant Brasserie Freilager (11. Juni 2020)

| June 18, 2020 | 0 Comments

To me, the Brasserie Freilager is an incredibly reliable location where you get good food for a fair price with decent service in a nice atmosphere. And today, that was true again. To a large degree at least. The service part did not entirely work out well. Given the place was rather full, there was only space in the bar area where you could still sit down at regular tables. The guy who was attending the bar was friendly and brought the menu and water quickly.

After we had ordered our dishes, it took a while until it finally arrived. My “white asparagus soup with smoked eel and chive” (CHF 16.00) was actually outstanding. The soup was light and refreshing and the smoked eel really added that layer of salty to the dish. What didn’t work so well was the serving of the wine. I wanted to get the glass of wine before my soup but once the soup was served, they managed to at least bring my glass of wine three minutes after that and after I had asked again. I remained positive as I was hoping that they had learned their lesson for the red wine for the main course.

The “Entrecôte Café de Paris, 160gr” (CHF 49.00) did not only smell and look amazing but it also tasted perfectly. It was cooked perfectly medium-rare as requested and was not only quite a portion but really just incredibly delicious.

I went for the “leaf spinach” as a side dish which was absolutely great! However, if you want to enjoy the Café de Paris sauce, you should definitely get the Pommes Alumettes on the side!

Unfortunately though, they did not manage to bring the glass of red wine I had ordered, the “Ojo de Agua, Malbec, Dieter Meier, 2018, Mendoza, Argentina (Malbec)” (CHF 7.50) which was a pity as I had really hoped that they’d manage to fix their error from the first course.

I must be fair though, the waiter which then attended us, explained the situation and was friendly and made sure things were delivered right away. However, it’s still a pity that this happened as the ‘intern waiter was somewhat inattentive and you really had to wave so he would notice you. In any case, the Brasserie Freilager remains a reliable source of delicious food – even if the attending wasn’t that great this day.
